When a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, he searches the entire beach to find the perfect pebble to present to her.
This is the perfect example of true love, and this fact makes me believe that animals have stronger bonds than we humans. Searching for the perfect thing to gift it to your love is quite an amazing way of valuing the relationships, particularly amongst animals. Conferring to the SeaWorld (Marine life theme park), shingles and pebbles are as romantic as stucco or siding to different types of penguin, though they do appear to work sometimes as a real-world souvenir. So, for penguins, these stones found on the beaches are for showing the love and not for just throwing.
The important thing is that, unlike humans, penguins don’t believe in just giving any stone for the sake of gifting purpose. The penguins try to look for the smoothest rock from the heaps of pebbles. The male Gentoo penguins perform this hard working job of fetching the best stone for his mate. If the female penguin like it, she puts the pebble in her nest by accepting the proposal. The penguins often fight for the best looking superior pebbles. Penguins many qualities match with ours, and this way of showing love imitates human courtship.
Few researchers claimed that the fact is not entirely accurate as pebbles are just used for making nests for the eggs when they are dating. And the male penguins who do not bring in pebbles, do not stand a chance for mating. One of the penguin experts told that stones do play a major role in coupling rituals of penguins, but particularity in selection has nothing to do with it. Most of the penguins collect rocks for their nest so as to keep their eggs safely. Some breeds of penguins also collect sticks and other plant objects to build a nest.
The searching of the perfect rock on the beaches may not seem so much relevant to build a nest, but some male penguins go far away in hunt of impeccable stones. Some penguins even steal from others nests when no one is around. According to experts, the pebbles story is only limited to nest building and has nothing to do with impressing a female penguin. The gifting of rock may help in bonding factor, but it is frequently led by head lowering and shaking, as well as expressing – as all of these are bonding behaviours.
Therefore, it is our tendency to talk about others life, irrespective of the kinds. And penguins also fall in that part, and their life is worth discussing. Maybe their courtship and lifestyle are not similar to ours but some linking is definitely there which describes their feelings. The presenting of pebbles may only play a part in building nest for the upcoming generations their sole motive lies in that. Otherwise, penguins overturn their partners time and again.
