You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television
Burning calories while sleeping is a thought-provoking information which I came across while going through some health facts. We actually lose more calories while sleeping than being sitting idle and watching TV. There is a particular reason behind this real statement because while sleeping we don’t eat or munch on snacks. While watching TV, we get tempted to eat something by looking at the various ads of products. We get up every 30 minutes to eat or drink something while watching TV as our mind is idle and always keeps reacting to the food and drinks ads.
During sleep, the body is at rest and uses the energy to restore or repair itself. The calorie intake is minimal while sleeping. The body can burn up to 60 to 100 calories per hour while sleeping than awake. But the calories burned during this process also depends on your muscle mass and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which differs from person to person. BMR is the minimum rate at which the body burns calories while at rest. There are many other ways like kissing, laughing, chewing gum, and drinking water, to burn the calories by not following any strict regimen.
The point proving that you can burn calories while sleeping does not mean that you have to lie down on the couch and watch TV. This is just to make you aware of the disadvantages of watching TV as in the process you tend to eat more blubbery foods. Despite sitting at one place you can work out, do skipping, sit-ups or walk on a treadmill while watching TV. You realize it or not but TV ads do affect your mind in induce cravings for what you see. It is advisable to read a book instead of watching TV as reading a book also helps in burning calories. Reading will not increase your appetite, and your mind will be involved in some kind thoughts rather wasting time in front of television.
The good thing about the whole story is that rest is good for your body and if you have a peaceful sleep for 7-8 hours in a day, then you burn 700-800 calories. For dropping more calories while resting, one can try eating less at night, say no to alcohol, and drink a cup of green tea or milk. These small habits will also make your body lose more calories in a resting position.
