85% of plant life is found in the ocean
Our planet Earth is 72% of water. This 72% layer is enclosed by the marine biome, comprising of oceans, coral ridges, and bays. Oceans generate a water level covering 15,000 miles (24,000 kilometres) through the planet at an average deepness of more than 2 miles (3.2 km). And if we look at the facts then we will find 50 to 80% of life on earth is obtained from the ocean surface and ocean comprises of 99% organic room on the sphere.
Human beings have reconnoitred only 10% of the spread out The maximum part covered by water is a dark, mysterious, and cold surroundings which we call the impenetrable ocean. A recent has found that this huge and dusky environment is full of rich minerals which sustain the living life on its surface. Even NASA was surprised to discover that the waters of the Arctic Ocean, although covered by thick ice, are richer in microscopic aquatic plant life than any other marine section in the biosphere.
The Arctic ocean discovery is perhaps the outcome of temperature variations diluting the Arctic ice and allowing sunbeams to stimulate plants growing. The rich sources of elements found in the deep waters might also be the reason of such immense growth of plant life. In the exposed ocean, there are many plant-like live forms known as algae. Algae is naturally green and carry out photosynthesis, and resembles plants. It is precisely categorised as a plant-like protist and is a member of the Kingdom Protista.
There are thousands of other diverse classes of ocean plant life, comprising phytoplankton, algae, kelp and seagrasses. There are above 130,000 types of algae only, but the majority of common varieties are of red and brown algae. Red algae are usually seen on coral reefs, and brown algae are thought to be the most convoluted type of algae. These forms survive in lower middle intertidal regions as they have stems and depend on photosynthesis for subsistence.
Conferring to “World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS)” recent research, there are presently at least 226,408 identified marine species. Till now, the researchers have defined and categorized 1.5 billion species on earth. But the estimates state that there are around 50 million more types that have not been yet discovered or wrongly categorized. Subsequently, the number decided for aquatic species may also increase and we might have as many as 25 million pelagic species.
Therefore, the exact number of species underwater are yet to be discovered. The plant life found in oceans are the result of the temperature, sunlight and nutrients found in the waters.
